Dominion Power – Making America Green

Dominion Power, based in Virginia, is one of America’s largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of approximately 26,000 MW of generation, 14,400 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and 6,500 miles of electric transmission lines.

Dominion’s EDGE®; their grid optimisation solution integrates into the existing voltage control equipment using standard protocols. This creates a more intelligent grid by leveraging customer voltages along with existing voltage control, thereby reducing risks and lowering costs. For building level optimisation, Dominion required a solution which could easily be configured and integrated into their infrastructure.

After thorough research of the voltage optimisation industry and its main manufacturers, Dominion approached Sollatek for its cutting edge technology and more importantly, Sollatek’s scalability. Sollatek is the designer and manufacturer of the iVolt – a state of art voltage optimisation unit which incorporates a patented and unique way of measuring energy savings in real time. Sollatek’s versatility meant that it could satisfy Dominion’s need for special voltage application of 227/480VAC .

2 units were trialled by Dominion. The IVO3x1000, which was the larger unit of the two, has been deployed at a government site. The second unit, IVO3x150, is being trialled and tested by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). This unit will then be used for live demonstrations to potential customers by Dominion.
